Norwegian rollerblader Joachim Lanham, 24, died after being struck by a car while travelling across Kansas during a cross-country journey from New York to Los Angeles. The driver, an 82-year-old woman, reportedly left the scene, and Lanham’s death has prompted an investigation into whether charges should be brought.

Lanham was found seriously injured in a ditch near Salina on 5 September and died in hospital six days later, having been placed in a medically induced coma. Police believe both he and the driver were travelling in the same direction; she later returned and told deputies she thought she had hit something but had not seen anyone. Lanham was on day 22 of his journey and had previously rollerbladed across Norway and Australia.
