An inquest is continuing into the death of a Rotherham man who died in his prison cell after being jailed for his involvement in the riot at an asylum-seeker hotel. The hearing will examine the circumstances of his death and any relevant actions or decisions by prison staff and services.

The man had been imprisoned following disorder at the Holiday Inn Express in Manvers, Rotherham, on 4 August 2024. The riot involved attacks on police and attempts to enter the hotel, where asylum seekers were being housed; 64 officers, three police horses and a police dog were injured.
