Insomniac’s Spider-Man Finishing Moves Influenced Brand New Day, Says Tom Holland

Push Square · 7 hours ago

Tom Holland has said that finishing moves from Insomniac Games' Marvel's Spider-Man series influenced the new film Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Speaking on the red carpet at the film's premiere, the actor told IGN that the games directly shaped his approach to action sequences on set, adding weight to earlier comments from director Destin Daniel Cretton about the games' impact on the movie's production.

Holland revealed he had been playing the game the night before the premiere and cited "a lot of the finishing moves" as a key inspiration for the film's action. Cretton previously told Polygon the games were a "great influence", noting that the stunt team took screenshots of specific in-game moves to try to replicate them physically. The crossover works both ways, too, as Brand New Day's new Spider-Man suit has already been added to Marvel's Spider-Man 2.
