Insomniac’s Spider-Man Games ‘a Great Inspiration’ for Brand New Day, Says Director
Spider-Man: Brand New Day director Destin Daniel Cretton has revealed that Insomniac Games' Marvel's Spider-Man titles served as a creative reference for the upcoming film, ahead of its cinema release. Cretton told Polygon that the production drew on both the video games and previous Spider-Man films, with his stunt team in particular studying footage from the games to inform the movie's action sequences. This highlights the growing crossover influence between Insomniac's acclaimed PlayStation series and Sony/Marvel's cinematic output, as the two franchises continue to feed into one another creatively.
Cretton admitted he isn't a gamer himself but has played the titles, while members of his stunt department reportedly took screen grabs of their own gameplay to ask whether specific moves could be recreated on screen. Star Tom Holland has also praised the games as "absolutely sensational". Separately, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is due to receive a free Brand New Day suit as downloadable content shortly before the film's cinema debut.
