Insomniac’s take on Wolverine is ferocious, destructive and cinematic – but a little predictable

Eurogamer · 2 hours ago

Insomniac’s Marvel’s Wolverine opens with a highly cinematic, violent sequence designed to establish Logan’s feral nature and immediately put players into action. The preview suggests the game captures Wolverine’s physicality through destructive combat, regeneration and heightened senses, while keeping the character separate from the X-Men to give him centre stage; however, its opening and mechanics can feel familiar for a modern action game.

Combat is built around aggressive claw combinations, finishing moves and leaps between enemies, balancing Logan’s clinical efficiency with his animalistic brutality. Players must still dodge gunfire and can parry attacks, including a special “reckless” golden strike that rewards successful timing with a takedown, while regeneration provides a last-stand recovery ability; the challenge is preventing Wolverine’s healing from making him an overly simple, invulnerable fighter.

  • Wolverine delivers polished, brutal and cinematic action.
  • Combat rewards aggression, dodging and well-timed parries.
  • Its familiar action-game structure may limit surprise.
