Insta360 has launched the X6, a smaller 360-degree action camera with larger Sony sensors, faster 8K recording and improved low-light performance. The update matters because it narrows the gap with higher-end rivals while retaining replaceable lenses, a feature intended to make repairs cheaper and more practical.

The X6 records 360-degree video at up to 8K/50fps, compared with 8K/30fps on the X5, and supports Dolby Vision HDR recording. Its 1/1.1-inch sensors offer 33 percent more area than the X5’s, while replacement lenses are claimed to be five times more scratch-resistant and 60 percent cheaper. Available now in black or white, it costs $699.99, or $799.99 with accessories; it is an inch shorter, four grams lighter, and has a 2,600mAh battery claimed to last up to 51 percent longer.
