Intel is reportedly planning to raise prices on its PC CPUs by around 10 percent from October, according to a Digitimes report, marking another step in a shift towards prioritising profitability over market share in its consumer chip business. The move would follow earlier price increases this year and comes as component shortages continue to push up costs across RAM, laptops and phones, with elevated prices expected to persist for years.

The same report suggests Intel could cut a further 5 to 10 percent of its workforce, though it may also make new hires simultaneously, and that the company may discontinue its Small Core line, a change likely to affect industrial PCs and IoT devices rather than mainstream consumer machines. The reported hike would follow Qualcomm's own chip price rise on 1 September, and comes after Intel posted its strongest revenue growth in more than fifteen years in July, driven largely by its data centre and AI operations.
