A bug in Apple's iOS 27 beta has been causing Digital IDs to vanish from the Wallet app, alarming users who rely on the feature at airport security checkpoints. Digital ID, introduced in 2025 with iOS 26 and carried over into iOS 27, lets users store a digital version of their passport in the Wallet app for use at TSA checkpoints in more than 250 US airports; it cannot replace a physical passport for international entry. Numerous reports on X described the ID disappearing unexpectedly, but affected users can fix the problem simply by re-adding their passport to Wallet. Engadget notes that despite genuine performance improvements in the iOS 27 beta, such bugs are a reminder to avoid installing beta software on everyday devices, or to limit it to a spare iPhone, ahead of the public release.
