Ipswich’s O’Shea and and Outtara stun Fulham with last-gasp comeback win

The Guardian ·

Ipswich produced a dramatic late comeback to beat Fulham 2-1 after goals from Abdoul Ouattara and captain Dara O'Shea extended Álvaro Arbeloa's winless start as Fulham manager to six Premier League matches. The visitors had taken the lead through Ryan Sessegnon's 55th-minute strike and appeared to be heading for their first victory under the former Real Madrid manager, only to see their advantage collapse in the final moments at Portman Road.

Ouattara restored parity with a spectacular 30-yard strike with just two minutes remaining before O'Shea headed home in stoppage time to spark wild celebrations among the home crowd. Fulham remain in the relegation zone with only two points from their opening six matches, now seven points adrift of Ipswich who climb to ninth place with their third win of the season.

Fulham are experiencing a difficult start to the 2026-27 Premier League season and currently sit in the relegation zone—the three lowest positions where clubs face relegation to the Championship. The club have earned only two points from their opening six matches.

The club recently appointed Álvaro Arbeloa, a former Real Madrid defender, as their manager in hopes of improving their form. He has yet to secure a league victory and Fulham remain several points adrift of the teams above the relegation zone.

Ipswich have enjoyed better fortunes, climbing to ninth place with their improved recent form. For Fulham, the gap to safety remains significant as they attempt to recover and avoid being relegated.
