Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has told the UN General Assembly that Iran will not submit to US pressure, while saying it remains open to a diplomatic settlement to its nearly seven-month conflict with the US and Israel. His comments followed President Donald Trump’s threat to “annihilate” Iran unless an agreement is reached soon, highlighting continued tensions alongside renewed diplomatic efforts.

Pezeshkian said any deal must end the US blockade of Iranian ships and ports, arguing that Iran should have access to the Strait of Hormuz, through which about a fifth of global oil and gas shipments normally pass. The strait has been effectively closed since February after Iranian attacks on commercial vessels and the US blockade; indirect talks in New York were the first since a preliminary June agreement collapsed, with both sides still divided over sanctions, frozen assets and shipping access.
