Falkirk goalkeeper Scott Bain has strengthened his case for a Scotland recall following an outstanding performance against Dundee United, in which he was named man of the match. His timing could prove significant, as new Scotland head coach Sebastien Pocognoli prepares to name his first squad for upcoming Nations League fixtures, with Craig Gordon having retired and fellow World Cup squad goalkeepers Angus Gunn and Liam Kelly short of recent club game time.

Bain made eight saves in the 1-1 draw, denying Dundee United players Kevin Ciubotaru, Lyall Cameron, Zidane Iqbal and Neil Farrugia before a stoppage-time Michael Forbes header earned the visitors a point. Falkirk manager John McGlynn and United assistant Lee Sharp both praised the 34-year-old, who has won four caps since his 2018 debut but has not featured for Scotland since March. He has now kept 10 clean sheets in 44 games for Falkirk, having previously recorded 39 clean sheets in 78 appearances for Celtic and 21 in 124 games for Dundee.
