Israeli settler attacks on West Bank olive harvest hit record since 2006, UN says
The United Nations says Israeli settlers have carried out a record 377 attacks connected to the olive harvest in the occupied West Bank since September. The attacks, alongside Israeli restrictions on Palestinian access to groves, have reduced the harvest and threatened an important source of income for many families.
OCHA reported that one Palestinian was killed by a settler and more than 200 were injured; over 3,850 olive trees and saplings were damaged or vandalised. The UN has recorded these attacks since 2006. Food security partners estimate that 80,000 to 100,000 Palestinian families across the West Bank rely on the annual harvest for their livelihoods and income.
In short
- OCHA recorded 377 olive harvest attacks since September, the highest total since 2006.
- One Palestinian was killed and more than 200 were injured.
- Damage and access restrictions threaten the livelihoods of up to 100,000 families.
