Explained simply
Al-Duyuk al-Tahta is a Palestinian village west of Jericho, in the occupied West Bank, territory captured by Israel in the 1967 war. Palestinians live there under Israeli military rule, while the Palestinian Authority has limited self-government in parts of the West Bank.
Israeli settlers are Israeli civilians living in communities in the occupied territory; their presence and the expansion of settlements are disputed and a major issue in Israeli-Palestinian relations. Homes being occupied can affect Palestinian residents’ ability to use their property and add to tensions in the area.
