Firaxis Games is finally bringing an "Atomic Age" to Civilization 7, covering the 1950s to the mid-21st century, in a free update that will let players build nuclear weapons and see their civilisations take on modern-day appearances. The addition addresses a long-standing complaint about the 2025 strategy sequel, which launched without this staple era despite every previous mainline Civilization game including it from release.

Currently, nukes exist in Civilization 7 but are confined to the tail end of the game's "Modern Age", with the timeline cutting off around 1950 and leaving players without advanced delivery methods such as high-speed or precision payloads. This makes their impact on matches minimal. Firaxis has not given a firm release date for the Atomic Age update beyond confirming it will not arrive before 2027, meaning players will have to wait some time before the gap is filled.
