Andy Muschietti, co-creator of HBO's "It: Welcome to Derry," has confirmed that Season 2 will be set in 1935 and will draw on the Bradley Gang Massacre interlude from Stephen King's "It" novel. He told Variety the writers' room is currently active on the new season, which will not shy away from the harsher social and cultural realities of the Depression era, describing them as central to the story rather than background detail.

Muschietti said the new season will feel visually and tonally distinct from Season 1's suburban Cold War setting, portraying Derry as depleted, poor and populated by orphans and runaways, though hope will remain a driving thread for the young characters. The 1935 timeline sits 27 years before Season 1's 1962 setting, and Muschietti previously outlined a planned three-season structure covering 1962, 1935 and 1908, with a family bloodline linking the different eras. He co-created the series with Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs, building on the Derry mythology he established in the 2017 and 2019 "It" films.
