Way Dynamic draws international praise for richly layered folk-pop
Australian musician Dylan Young, who performs as Way Dynamic, is gaining international attention for his warm, layered folk-pop and 2025 album Massive Shoe. Signed to Jagjaguwar for an international re-release, he has earned praise from Elton John and others, toured extensively and sold out headline shows in the US and Europe. Young says managing the rapid growth while staying grounded in friendships and personal motivation has been important.
The 30-year-old grew up in Ballarat, learned guitar at eight and developed through local bands before moving to Melbourne and playing with acts including Good Morning and Cool Sounds. His music draws on the Beach Boys, Beatles, jazz and bossa nova, using analogue textures, restrained performances and cryptic but emotionally open lyrics. Young says he is pursuing the intimacy and imperfections created by older recording limitations rather than simply recreating a particular sound.
- Way Dynamic is winning international acclaim for his thoughtful, vintage-influenced folk-pop.
- Massive Shoe is receiving an international re-release through Jagjaguwar.
- Young credits friendships and musical collaboration for sustaining his rapid rise.
