Zach Cregger has confirmed that a prequel centred on Aunt Gladys from *Weapons* is being written, following growing interest in the character after the 2025 film’s release. He said the original film deliberately kept Gladys’s past mysterious, but the new story will explore her origins through twists, mysteries and horror elements; it remains in development and will not be his next film.

The project’s working title is *Gladys*, with Zach Shields reportedly joining Cregger as co-writer in April 2026 after Amy Madigan won an Oscar for the role. Cregger’s next directing project will instead be Amblin’s sci-fi thriller *The Flood*, scheduled for 11 August 2028, while he is also producing a *Siren Head* film and directing *Resident Evil*, due to premiere on 18 September.
