Residents living near The Monal by Jalwa, a large Asian wedding venue in West Yorkshire, say noise and disruption from events there have made their lives unbearable, likening the experience to living beside a Formula 1 track. The Grade II Listed building, which previously housed the Aakash restaurant for two decades until its closure in November 2022, opened as a wedding venue last June and can host up to 800 guests. Complaints centre on revving supercars, ceremonial drumming and late-night fireworks, raising questions about how the venue is being managed and whether existing noise controls are being enforced.

Locals report up to three weddings a day during the busy summer season, with celebrations often running past an 11pm curfew and guests arriving in fleets of Lamborghinis, Ferraris and Bentleys that can rev engines for hours. Residents including Tim Miller, who has complained to Kirklees Council three times, and mother Alina Leipina, whose young son is frightened by night-time fireworks, say warning signs against revving have had no effect. Others describe drunken guests throwing bottles into gardens and cars blocking Bradford Road on both sides, which David Craven warns could delay emergency vehicles with potentially life-threatening consequences.
