Demand for tickets to Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" screened in Imax 70mm has become so intense that fraudsters and touts are exploiting desperate fans, particularly on the Reddit community r/NYCmovies. Moviegoers have posted pleas begging for spare tickets after being repeatedly scammed, while the film's popularity has left New York's only Imax 70mm venue almost entirely sold out for weeks, underscoring the extraordinary appetite for Nolan's preferred large-format presentation.

Only 41 Imax 70mm screens exist worldwide, and AMC Lincoln Square 13 is the sole one in New York City, with just wheelchair spots remaining across showtimes running from the current 2am screenings (continuing until 2 August) through to 12 August. AMC declined to say whether further showtimes would be added. Moderators of r/NYCmovies, which explicitly bans scalping, say they are struggling to contain touts selling above face value and scammers offering tickets they do not possess, as banned accounts simply reappear under new names; fans are being urged to verify seller history, request proof of tickets, favour in-person kiosk exchanges, and use PayPal's buyer protections for online deals.
