J Balvin has said the global rise of Spanish-language artists such as Karol G, Bad Bunny and Maluma confirms he does not need to release an album in English, telling GQ that Spanish has become a truly global language. He argued that the old model of crossover success, in which artists released English versions of Spanish hits to reach wider audiences, is no longer necessary, framing the current wave of Latin music's popularity as a lasting movement rather than a passing trend.

Balvin cited Shakira as an example of the previous approach, where English-language versions were used to broaden appeal, and credited Daddy Yankee's "Gasolina" with helping open the door for Spanish-language music internationally. He pointed to Karol G's recent single "BbY WOW", a collaboration with Judeline and rusowsky from her album No Me Arrepiento de Sentir Tanto, which reached number one on Spotify's global chart, as evidence that Spanish-language music can now top the charts without translation.
