J.J. Abrams' science-fiction series Fringe is now available to stream for free on Pluto TV. The show, which aired for five seasons on Fox, initially received less enthusiasm than Abrams' earlier success Lost, but its cultural reputation improved considerably over time and it has since been recognised as an underrated entry in the genre.

Fringe follows an FBI task force known as the Fringe Division investigating cases involving speculative science, parallel universes and technological anomalies. The central trio comprises Agent Olivia Dunham, the eccentric scientist Dr. Walter Bishop, and his estranged son Peter, who become embroiled in uncovering a doomsday plot whilst investigating phenomena around Reiden Lake. The series blends elements reminiscent of The X-Files and The Twilight Zone with what critics describe as surprisingly emotional storytelling about family and human connection, balancing complex sci-fi concepts with accessible humour and relatable character vulnerabilities that do not require extensive scientific knowledge to appreciate.
