The rumours spread on social media after Sancho, released by Manchester United in June, used the club's facilities, but Flixton clarified he was merely maintaining his fitness ahead of finding his next club rather than being on trial or in transfer talks.

Sancho, 26, cost United £73m when he joined in 2021 but fell out with then-manager Erik ten Hag, going on loan to Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea and Aston Villa before his contract expired this summer. Flixton praised him as "professional, humble and generous with his time", noting he met young fans, signed autographs and posed for photos after his session, while manager Alex Mortimer shared a video of Sancho complimenting the club's pitch.
