James Blunt on Traitors: I tried – and failed – to get banished
James Blunt says he spent much of Celebrity Traitors hoping to be banished, despite becoming one of the series’ most prominent faithful contestants and reaching its final episode. His relaxed approach led him to voice far-fetched theories for entertainment, while he and Michael Sheen eventually helped expose traitor James Acaster.
Blunt says the televised edit left out an intense interrogation that helped lead Acaster to confess, including a dispute over a perfume bottle. He was later voted out after Romesh Ranganathan suspected him of working with traitor Maya Jama; Blunt says he was surprised but felt the ending was perfect.
In short
- Blunt says he tried to leave the show early.
- He and Michael Sheen helped uncover James Acaster as a traitor.
- Romesh Ranganathan’s suspicion led to Blunt’s exit.
Explained simply
The Traitors is a reality game in which contestants are secretly assigned as either “Faithfuls” or “Traitors”. The Faithfuls try to identify and vote out the Traitors, while the Traitors work to avoid detection and remove Faithfuls from the game.
The celebrity version follows the same format, with well-known contestants taking part. Suspicion, alliances and discussion shape the game, and contestants can be voted out even when they are Faithfuls. The format makes trust and deception central to who reaches the final.
