James Carville explains why he thinks mainstream media networks made a mistake avoiding Trump’s speech
Democratic strategist James Carville criticised major US television networks for declining to air President Trump's primetime address on election security in full, arguing this was a mistake. He said Americans should have been allowed to watch the speech themselves, contending that doing so would have exposed what he characterised as the president's erratic behaviour rather than shielding viewers from it.
ABC, NBC and CNN all chose not to broadcast the address live, a decision that drew criticism from other quarters too, including Department of Homeland Security chief Markwayne Mullin, who called the networks' move "shameful". The episode fed into a wider media row, with CBS's Tony Dokoupil separately clashing with Senator Mark Warner after Warner accused the network of airing Trump's remarks "as news".
