Speaking on "Saturday in America", Carville argued that despite the DSA's rising visibility, Democratic voters will not ultimately select a nominee closely aligned with the group, insisting the party has never chosen its most liberal candidate and will not do so in 2028 either. The comments come amid growing unease among centrist Democrats about the DSA's expanding influence within the party.

Carville's remarks followed a string of DSA-backed primary victories this year in states including New York and Colorado, with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani among the group's prominent affiliated officials. He also addressed Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who recently rejoined the DSA after a seven-year gap and has been floated as a potential 2028 contender, praising her talent while suggesting she occupies a different category from other left-wing figures. Carville predicted the DSA would field its own presidential candidate in 2028 but that they would not survive beyond the first two primary contests, calling the group a "minor part" of the wider Democratic coalition.
