‘Jane Elliott Against The World,’ Oscar-Contending Documentary On Pioneering And Polarizing Educator, Heads To Theaters
Judd Ehrlich’s documentary *Jane Elliott Against the World*, about the educator’s work confronting racism and her later fight over school censorship, is heading to cinemas. The release brings the story of Elliott, whose classroom exercise made her a prominent and polarising figure, to audiences ahead of its planned PBS and streaming debut.
The film opens on 4 December at The Quad in New York and Laemmle Noho 7 in Los Angeles, after screening at Sundance and winning awards at several festivals. Elliott’s 1968 blue-eye/brown-eye exercise divided pupils to demonstrate how discrimination can be created and experienced; the documentary also follows her near age 90 as she challenges a conservative school board over school teaching. It will screen at DOC NYC on 15 November and premiere on PBS’s *Independent Lens* and streaming on 29 March 2027.
