Director Alice McShane has said the BBC’s new documentary on sexual misconduct allegations against Jared Leto seeks to explain why earlier allegations appeared to have had little effect on his career. The film, broadcast in the UK on Thursday, brings together accounts from ten women and highlights the risks contributors face when accusing a wealthy, high-profile figure; Leto denies every allegation.

Four women in “Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret” allege criminal sexual conduct, while the documentary expands on an AirMail investigation in which nine women made misconduct allegations. McShane said work began in April 2025 after an Instagram accusation by Los Angeles DJ Allie Teilz, and that the BBC required extensive corroboration because of the legal and editorial risks. Leto said through representatives that he has never sexually assaulted anyone and that the claims are “absolutely and categorically false”.
