Jay Slater fell approximately 82 feet into a ravine whilst attempting to return home from a night out and was discovered four weeks later in a remote area near Masca. Post-mortem examinations by both Spanish and Home Office pathologists confirmed that he died from head injuries sustained in the fall, with no evidence of assault or restraint. Dr Richard Shepherd, the Home Office pathologist, stated that the head injury would have killed him immediately, meaning he would not have suffered pain.
