JAY WEINBERG Opens Up About ‘Seeking Therapy’ Following SLIPKNOT Firing: ‘It Finally Felt Like An Unlocking Of A Door’
Former Slipknot drummer Jay Weinberg has spoken openly about seeking therapy to help him cope emotionally after his unexpected sacking from the band in November 2023. Speaking to Bryce Maopolski of HeartSupport, a charity that provides free, music-based mental health support to fans, Weinberg described the period as feeling like "a tangled ball of rusted barbed wire" and explained that professional support was central to working through the anxiety and upheaval that followed his dismissal.
Weinberg said he began looking for a therapist in Tennessee towards the end of 2023, having had some limited experience of therapy in his early twenties while living on the East Coast. A close friend who officiated his wedding recommended his own therapist, which Weinberg said finally felt "like an unlocking of a door" after years of searching for the right fit. He now speaks to a therapist roughly once a week, a routine he credits with helping him process difficult events, alongside the added pressures of public scrutiny as a musician and the recent experience of becoming a father for the first time.
