JD Sports is opening a substantially larger store at Meadowhall in Sheffield, expanding its local presence and signalling confidence in the shopping centre as a retail destination. The new “megastore” is intended to give customers a wider choice of sportswear, footwear and fashion brands in a higher-specification space.

The store is due to open on 30 July on the Lower Level of Meadowhall’s High Street. At 29,225 sq ft, it will be almost three times the size of JD’s previous shop and will include self-service tills; Meadowhall says the opening follows recent arrivals including Pull&Bear and Stradivarius.
