The latest polling data presents a stark picture for Republicans, with prediction markets showing Democrats at 64 per cent odds of taking the Senate and 91 per cent for the House. This scenario echoes the 2006 midterms under President George W Bush, when Republicans suffered severe losses—Democrats gained 31 House seats and six Senate seats—whilst facing similarly unfavourable conditions. Vance has been actively campaigning across multiple states and has argued that Republicans could "defy history," claiming that even his "worst nightmare" scenario would not be as severe as 2006, partly because he believes Democrats are pursuing more extreme positions and Republicans have a stronger record to defend.
