JD Vance says wife Usha and son ‘happy and healthy’ after birth of fourth child

BBC World · 16 hours ago

US Vice-President JD Vance has announced the birth of his fourth child, a son named Alec Neel Vance, born on Sunday at Walter Reed Medical Center. Vance said his wife Usha and the baby were "happy and healthy" and thanked the military doctors who cared for them, in what is reported to be the first birth to a sitting vice-president in office in over 150 years. President Donald Trump congratulated the family in a social media post following the announcement.

Alec joins the couple's three other children, Ewan, 9, Vivek, 6, and four-year-old Mirabel. Vance, a prominent advocate within the Trump administration for higher US birth rates, revealed in his recently published book that Usha had initially been reluctant to have a fourth child, but changed her mind after the death of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, writing that "one life was stolen from us, but another was given." Usha Vance, who met her husband at Yale Law School in 2010, was born in San Diego to parents who had emigrated from Andhra Pradesh, India.
