Barn owl rescued at sea by soldiers released after six weeks of care
Little Reg, a barn owl found far out at sea, has been released back into the wild six weeks after soldiers rescued her during a round-Britain yacht race. Her rescue drew attention to the crew’s efforts to care for the exhausted bird while continuing the race, and the handover to wildlife specialists.
The owl reportedly fell into the sea three times before reaching the boat, where the soldiers wrapped her in a towel and made her a bed for the night. After 24 hours, a lifeboat crew met them off the Norfolk coast and volunteers helped take her ashore; RSPCA Scarborough then cared for her until her release.
