US Vice-President JD Vance has warned that Donald Trump is prepared to "part ways" with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if their interests diverge, signalling growing strain between Washington and Jerusalem. Speaking via videoconference to the All-In Summit in Los Angeles, Vance said Trump would not let American Middle East policy become "subservient" to Israel, arguing the president is the only one of the last 40 years willing to openly differ with Netanyahu despite past friction under Obama and Biden.

The remarks follow months of reported tension, including a furious phone call in June in which Trump reportedly berated Netanyahu over Israeli strikes on Hezbollah in Lebanon during fragile ceasefire talks with Iran. Vance's earlier role in brokering a temporary Iran ceasefire angered some pro-Israel Republican donors and Israeli diplomats, while Trump has also voiced frustration over Palestinian treatment in the West Bank, telling reporters he would seek explanations from Israeli leaders. The UK, France, Canada and nine other nations recently imposed sanctions on Israel over West Bank violence, with Trump reportedly declining to intervene. The two leaders last met at the White House on 28 July, their first face-to-face encounter since the Iran conflict began in February.
