Jeff Lowell, the screenwriter behind "John Tucker Must Die" and creator of Netflix's "The Crew," has died aged 52 in Virginia on 24 August following a brief illness. He built a decades-long career in television and film comedy, starting as a sitcom writer in the mid-1990s before rising to executive producer and showrunner roles across numerous acclaimed series.

Lowell's TV credits include "The George Carlin Show," "The Drew Carey Show," "Spin City," "Sports Night" and "Just Shoot Me!," alongside executive producer stints on "The Jim Gaffigan Show" and "The Ranch." He made his feature debut with the 2006 film "John Tucker Must Die" and later wrote and directed "Over Her Dead Body," with additional writing and producing credits on "Hotel For Dogs" and Kevin James's "Home Team." He is survived by his wife and two children.
