Jenna Ortega on Why She’d Go “All Day” Without Eating or Drinking on Set in Early Career
Jenna Ortega has said that, as a child actor, she would sometimes go an entire day on set without food or water because she was determined not to inconvenience anyone. Reflecting on this as a “rookie mistake”, she said she had been highly focused and grateful for the work, but now recognises that she was not properly looking after herself.
Ortega said she decided she wanted to act professionally at the age of seven and cited Dakota Fanning as an early influence. She nearly considered leaving acting before starting high school, but renewed her commitment after enjoying work on Netflix’s You; her early credits include Jane the Virgin, Stuck in the Middle and Iron Man 3, and she will next appear in Taika Waititi’s Klara and the Sun.
