Jenna Ortega ‘Would Go All Day’ Without Food or Water as a Child Star to Make Sure She Wasn’t ‘In the Way of Anybody’

Actress Jenna Ortega has revealed that as a child performer she would deliberately go without food or water for entire days on set, driven by a fear of being seen as a burden to the crew. Speaking to Esquire, the "Wednesday" star said her determination not to inconvenience anyone meant she avoided asking for even basic necessities, a habit she now recognises came at the expense of looking after herself.

Ortega, who began her career at the age of seven, landed her breakout role in the Disney Channel series "Stuck in the Middle" in 2016 aged 13, having previously appeared in shows including "Richie Rich," "Jane the Virgin" and "Elena of Avalor." She said she could not recall making a single mistake as a child actor, attributing it to her eagerness to please, and reflected candidly on the pressures and stigmas often associated with growing up as a young star.
