Jennifer Finch, the bassist known for powering the influential rock band L7 during its 1990s creative peak, has died at the age of 59 following a long battle with brain cancer. Her death was announced via her Instagram account and confirmed in a statement from the band, which praised her "fierce spirit, humor and boundless creativity" and said her impact on music and on those who knew her "cannot be measured."

Finch joined L7 in 1986 and remained with the band, alongside Suzi Gardner, Donita Sparks and Dee Plakas, through its most successful period, contributing vocals and writing songs including "(Right On) Thru", "Everglade" and "Shirley". She left in 1996 to focus on sobriety and cope with her father's death, before rejoining the group from 2014 until this year. Earlier this month, friends and family had launched a GoFundMe to cover her in-home nursing care and medical costs, which has since raised $395,000 against a $350,000 goal. Before L7, Finch played in Sugar Babydoll alongside Courtney Love and Kat Bjelland, and also appeared in John Waters' film Serial Mom and the 2017 film Scumbag.
