Jerry Goldstein Is The First Person To Receive Two Songwriters Hall Of Fame Nominations In The Same Year
Jerry Goldstein has become the first songwriter to receive two Songwriters Hall of Fame nominations in the same year. The nominations recognise his work with the early 1960s songwriting trio Feldman, Goldstein & Gottehrer and his later contributions to the band War.
With Bob Feldman and Richard Gottehrer, Goldstein co-wrote songs including “My Boyfriend’s Back”, which topped the Billboard Hot 100, and “I Want Candy”, which reached number 11. Although he was not a member of War, he produced all the group’s albums and co-wrote five nominated hits: “Low Rider”, “Why Can’t We Be Friends?”, “The Cisco Kid”, “The World Is a Ghetto” and “Spill the Wine”. “Why Can’t We Be Friends?” was transmitted into space during the 1975 Apollo-Soyuz mission.
