Actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson and his husband Justin Mikita are moving into the microdrama space, producing a musical comedy series called "Theater Kids Vs. Zombies" for the platform aTwist. The project marks a notable entry by an established Hollywood name into the emerging short-form "microseries" format, as new studios in this space compete to attract established talent and build out original content ahead of launch.

The series follows theatre students who must stage a musical to survive a zombie attack on their school, and stars Kadyn Kozminski, Jeff Lawless, Amanda Drewes, John Woods III and Danielle Judovits. Ferguson, best known for "Modern Family", will direct, while Mikita, a producer on the Broadway revival "Cats: The Jellicle Ball", co-produces alongside choreographer Jamal Sims and songwriter Shane McAnally. aTwist, which is set to launch later this summer, was founded by former Showtime president Jana Winograde, ex-NBCU and Warner Bros TV executive Susan Rovner, and former ABC and WME chairman Lloyd Braun.
