Jim Gilstrap, an American R&B singer and session musician best known as one of the voices on the theme song for the 1970s sitcom "Good Times" and for singing on Stevie Wonder's "You Are The Sunshine Of My Life," has died at the age of 79. His nephew, Gil Gilstrap, confirmed he died of natural causes on Saturday 18 July 2026.

Born in Daingerfield, Texas, in 1946, Gilstrap began his music career after serving in the Vietnam War, later joining Stevie Wonder's backing group Wonderlove on the Grammy-winning "Talking Book" and "Innervisions" albums. Over a five-decade career he lent his voice to numerous film and TV projects, including the "Miami Vice" and "TaleSpin" theme songs, and worked as a session vocalist with artists such as Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston and Quincy Jones. He also had solo chart success, with his single "Swing Your Daddy" reaching No. 4 on the UK Singles Chart in 1975.
