JMSN has demanded that the White House stop using his song “Love Me” in a promotional advert for President Donald Trump, saying it was used without permission. His lawyers sent a cease-and-desist letter to Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, arguing the partisan use could wrongly suggest that the singer supports the president or his administration and harm perceptions of his artistic independence.

The publicly funded advert began airing on television last week and is also on the White House’s YouTube page; it includes Trump saying, “America will never be a communist country”, while promoting his policies. The White House describes it as an educational, patriotic public service announcement, saying it does not ask viewers to vote or take other action. JMSN, whose real name is Christian Berishaj, said on Instagram that he would not authorise his music for any political agenda, and his lawyers gave the White House until Thursday to confirm the song would be removed.
