The Metropolitan Museum of Art has announced that British designer John Galliano will be the subject of its spring 2027 Costume Institute exhibition, John Galliano: Horizons, with that year’s Met Gala celebrating his work. The show will examine both his influence on fashion and the racist, antisemitic and anti-Asian remarks that ended his Dior career, framing artistic achievement alongside ethical accountability.

Galliano will be only the third living designer to receive a solo Met exhibition, after Yves Saint Laurent and Rei Kawakubo. Curated by Andrew Bolton, it will trace four decades of work from his 1984 Central Saint Martins collection through Givenchy, Dior and Maison Margiela, using the Costume Institute’s extensive holdings of his designs. It will conclude with his Spring/Summer 2024 Maison Margiela Artisanal collection, while also addressing his 2011 conviction in Paris for public insults based on race, religion, ethnicity or origin.
