Additional details have emerged about the death of John Kirby, the Hollywood acting coach and member of a noted entertainment family, including the identity of the associate who confirmed his passing and arrangements for his memorial. Kirby, brother of City Slickers star Bruno Kirby and son of character actor Bruce Kirby, died aged 75 on the morning of Wednesday 15 July, three years after being diagnosed with ALS. His death was announced by longtime associate Nathan Besbitt in a social media post shared on Kirby's Instagram account, describing the loss as devastating for those close to him.

Kirby had been diagnosed with ALS on 7 July 2023, after a fall and fractured hip the previous month led to the medical tests that revealed the illness. He was best known as an on-set acting coach, notably for Jim Caviezel across films including Frequency, Pay It Forward, The Count of Monte Cristo and Unknown, and he also worked on productions such as Peter Pan, The Chronicles of Narnia and Scream 4.
