Johnny Marr has released ‘Ophelia’, the second single from his forthcoming solo album, ‘The Age Of Everything’, due on 2 October. The track follows his largest-ever solo performance at Manchester’s Castlefield Bowl and suggests that Marr is pairing his established indie-guitar sound with newer material.

Marr said the song’s title was inspired by Shakespeare’s Ophelia and by similarities he saw with someone in his own life. He described the character as both confounding and possessing nobility and strength, adding that the name suited the song naturally as it developed.
