Jon Bernthal on His ‘Brotherly Dynamic’ With Tom Holland in ‘Spider-Man’ and ‘The Odyssey,’ and Why Punisher Is Peter Parker’s ‘Cautionary Tale’
Jon Bernthal discusses reuniting with Tom Holland in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” after the pair filmed one another’s Marvel audition tapes in 2015. Their characters, the Punisher and Spider-Man, share the screen for the first time, with Bernthal describing Frank Castle as an unlikely confidant whose violent life serves as a cautionary example for Peter Parker.
The film follows soon after Bernthal and Holland appeared together in Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey”, where Bernthal played Menelaus and Holland played Telemachus. Bernthal also reflects on a busy year that included a Broadway run in “Dog Day Afternoon”, Netflix’s “His and Hers”, a co-written Disney+ Punisher special and his final work on “The Bear”.
