Jordan’s ‘Last Dance’ jersey sells for £9m
Michael Jordan’s game-worn jersey from the 1998 NBA Finals has sold for $12.3m (£9.3m), setting a record for Jordan memorabilia. The sale matters because it surpassed the previous high for one of his items and reflects the lasting cultural and sporting importance of his final championship season with the Chicago Bulls.
Jordan wore the jersey in game three of the Finals, which the Bulls won 4-2 for his sixth and final NBA title; he was named Finals MVP each time. Entrepreneur Ryan Gough offered it through Pharrell Williams’ digital auction house Joopiter, which had estimated it would fetch $10m to $15m. The overall record for game-worn sports memorabilia remains Babe Ruth’s “called the shot” jersey, sold for $24.1m (£18.2m) in 2024.
