Joseph Morpurgo’s *Highlander 70* is a fast-paced one-man comic play built around a 50-year-old American high-school yearbook. The reviewer finds it highly entertaining, using its seemingly innocent photographs to create a story about awkward pupil David Moon’s final school day, while also drawing unexpected emotion from nostalgia and the unknowable lives captured in old images.

Morpurgo plays Moon with his face painted grey to match the monochrome source material, as the character searches for a missing diary revealing his crush on Beth. The production combines live performance with animated yearbook images and voiceovers, featuring a strict headteacher, bullies, drunken teenagers and a *West Side Story*-style dance sequence; although some sections, particularly audience participation, drag, the overall verdict is strongly positive. It runs at Pleasance Courtyard, Edinburgh, until 30 August.
