Josh Brolin celebrates sobriety but admits he “got strung out on heroin a few times”

Actor Josh Brolin has described his past drug use and life with a surf-punk group, saying he was occasionally dependent on heroin but never a “full-blown junkie”. His account also recalls how substance use and trouble with the police marked his youth, while his 12 years of sobriety have become a lasting part of his life.

Brolin said he first took LSD at 15 and was arrested at 19 after fighting six police officers while drunk. He spent a few months in jail and then lived in a halfway house after agreeing to seek treatment. Now, he attends an online recovery meeting every morning at 6am and says he enjoys life more sober.
