Josh Brolin Says ‘Sicario 3’ “Is Happening”
Josh Brolin has confirmed that a third film in Taylor Sheridan's Sicario franchise is moving forward, with production expected to begin soon. Brolin, who played CIA officer Matt Graver in the first two instalments, told ScreenRant the project "is happening," offering the clearest sign yet that the crime-thriller series will continue nearly a decade after it began.
The original Sicario (2015), directed by Denis Villeneuve, saw Brolin's Graver recruit FBI agent Kate (Emily Blunt) into a task force led by the enigmatic Alejandro (Benicio Del Toro) to combat Mexican drug cartels. A 2018 sequel, Day of the Soldado, directed by Stefano Sollima, featured Isabela Merced in place of Blunt, and together the two films have grossed more than $160 million worldwide. Sheridan, the franchise's writer, has spent the years since largely focused on his expanding Yellowstone universe, including spin-offs Dutton Ranch and Marshals and standalone shows such as Landman and Tulsa King.

Josh Brolin is an American actor known for roles including CIA officer Matt Graver in Sicario, a crime-thriller series about the US government's fight against Mexican drug cartels. The first film came out in 2015, directed by Denis Villeneuve, and starred Emily Blunt alongside Brolin and Benicio Del Toro; a sequel followed in 2018 with a different director and a new co-star. Together the two films were both critically praised and commercially successful.
Since then, writer Taylor Sheridan, who created the Sicario films, has become one of Hollywood's most prolific figures through the Yellowstone television franchise and its various spin-offs and related shows. A third Sicario film has long been rumoured but never confirmed, leaving fans uncertain whether the story of Graver and Del Toro's character Alejandro would ever continue on screen.
